In the next month, the government will reach the decision to have companies for supervision over the realization of big infrastructural projects be selected at international tenders, announced Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic on Sunday, November 13.

Furthermore, supervision companies will need to have appropriate licenses, Mihajlovic said for Tanjug and added that the experience up till then had shown that the issue of supervision was a big one.

She said that it had often been perceived in the previous years that the biggest problem in the realization of projects was the lack of money and emphasized that it was not true and that the state, being fully solvent, was always capable of providing guarantee and setting money aside from the budget,

– The project and technical documentation was completed in almost each case, but the supervision proved to be an issue – Mihajlovic emphasized.

She pointed out that there needed to be a supervision company on each construction site, in addition to the investor and the contractor.

According to her, it has often happened that companies are selected by the investor itself, circumventing the full tender procedure.

– According to our laws, the company carrying out the supervision didn't need to have a “big” license. We believe that the supervision company needs to be as serious as the contractor or any subcontractor. In that sense, the company providing supervision will be required to have a license for supervising a given project – Mihajlovic said for Tanjug.

Mihajlovic emphasized that the projects were worth hundreds of millions of euros and that the supervision was very important in order to see whether the contractor is honoring the agreement and the project.
