The International Monetary Fund (IMF) requires that Serbia pass a new law on taxes and fees by next year, equalizing the amounts of these charges in local self-governments, Blic writes.

This, as the newspaper writes, is one of the prerequisites for the sixth review of Serbia's arrangement with the IMF, which will be published in the second half of October.

It is expected that the new law will abolish many of the 489 charges to businesses and citizens prescribed by municipalities and cities and secure the predictability of the collection of taxes and other fees which local self-governments often use to compensate for the lack of budget money.

Reducing and abolishing unnecessary charges and equalizing them on a local level is also required by businessmen, who have set this as a condition for agreeing to raise the minimum wage in their negotiations with the government.
