Flights from Nis to Eindhoven and Munich start – Nis Airport expecting 120,000 passengers in 2016
Airplanes of the Hungarian low-cost company Wizz Air will fly the routes twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays.
The director of the Nis Airport, Vladica Djurdjanovic, emphasized at the press conference that the airport would, thanks to the flights of Wizz Air, have more than 100,000 passengers in 2016.
– Together with the flights of Ryanair to Düsseldorf, Milan, Bratislava and Berlin, which start this summer and autumn, there will have been more than 120,000 passengers by the end of the year – Djurdjanovic said.
Regular traffic was re-established at the Nis Airport on June 25, 2015, with Wizz Air flights to Malmö.
Djurdjanovic said that Wizz Air and Ryanair would have a total of nine regular airlines from Nis, with capacities being 70% full, by the end of 2016.
Mayor Darko Bulatovic said that the revival of the Nis Airport was of enormous economic significance for the entire city, but also for the whole area.
– In the previous years, RSD 100 million a year was being set aside from the budget for the subsidies to the airport, and the subsidies will be brought down to zero next year – Bulatovic emphasized and said that he would ask the neighboring cities and municipalities for support with the aim of the airport's further development.
Several travelers from Nis, but also from other places in Serbia, didn't manage to fly to Memmingen on Monday, as the tickets they had bought online contained the information that the flight was scheduled for 10:55 am, an hour later than the actual takeoff. They will take their flights next Friday, or possibly today, through Basel.
