The feasibility study for the construction of a wind farm in Kostolac should be completed in October, which will be followed by other preparatory activities, said Predrag Djordjevic, the head manager of the project at Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS).

So far, the location has been chosen, the positioning of the turbines has been determined and the analysis of the future wind farm's impact on birds and bats has been carried out. According to the previous feasibility study, the total potential area of the wind park is around 50 km2, which allows for a 20-turbine wind farm of the total installed capacity of 50 to 60 MW.

Djordjevic said that, after providing the proof of the justifiability of the construction and the preparation of the general plan, the preparation of the tender documentation for the equipment and the construction work should follow, reports EPS Energija. According to him, the research and the detailed calculations have been carried out at the location, in order to optimally configure the wind farm, which is the process that lasted several years.

It is planned that the wind farm should be in the eastern Serbia, in the area of Kostolac coal basin, around 90 km from Belgrade, and the potential locations are abandoned mining structures and tailings disposal sites.

According to the previous feasibility study and the general plan for the construction of the Kostolac wind farm, the total potential area is around 50 km2, whereas partial areas of individual wind farm structures are significantly smaller at 1.5 to 10 km2.

The wind park's lifespan is projected at 20 to 25 years, and the characteristics of the terrain point to a very favorable choice of the location. The land, which is owned by the state, is being run by EPS, more precisely, it branch TE-KO Kostolac, so there's no issue of ownership.
