Electric Power Company of Serbia (EPS) has finished revitalization of block 4 in Steam Power Plant Nikola Tesla (TENT) in Obrenovac, in which 76.2m EUR were invested.

- That is the largest investment in an existing block in the power plants in Serbia in the past 20 years, and implementation of the project for modernization of block 4 lasted for 8.5 months and it was financed only from the incomes from sale of electric power - representatives of Electric Power Company of Serbia announced.

Minister of Mining and Energy of Serbia, Aleksandar Popović, said that EPS had set record in 2007 in production of electric power, but he added that Serbia needed new capacities for production and more rational consumption of electric power.

Popović says that he hopes that the precise plan for construction of new hydro-capacities on the Drina will be made prior to April, as a product of collaboration between Serbia and Republic of Srpska. According to his words, Serbia has a big problem with energy efficiency and that problem should be resolved in the following years.

He pointed out that, in addition to internal reforms, which are already being carried out by EPS, all parameters of operations in the following ten years must be based on the economic indices and not on political demagogy, so that EPS could face new challenges.

- First of all, I am talking about the price of electric energy. We must make clear decision whether we want that EPS becomes the leader in the region - Popović pointed out and added that EPS would invest 1.2 billion EUR in environment protection prior to 2015.

During the revitaliaztion of block 4 in TENT, all turbine pads were replaced, the complete overhaul of the generator was carried out and 75% of the boiler tubing and entire steam pipeline were replaced. New, automatic control system is applied to block 4, and reconstruction of electric filters ensured application of ecological norms stipulated by European Union.
