At the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which took place between January 6 and 9, Ericsson presented its latest achievements. Ericsson's exhibition stand delivered an end-user perspective on the Networked Society, where connectivity is the starting point for new ways of innovating, collaborating and socializing. Featured demonstrations focused on the exploration of life in tomorrow's connected world and showcased how 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT) are empowering people, revolutionizing industries and transforming the Networked Society. IoT is quickly becoming a very important factor of transformation because it connects physical and digital world. The latest Ericsson Mobility Report shows that there will be 28 billion connected devices in the world by 2021, of which more than a half will be connected M2M and IoT devices.

One of the innovations presented at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this year is Smart Cities Alliance, a framework on which Ericsson works with AT&T. The framework is aimed at helping cities better serve their citizens. It will be deployed in several cities across the USA, and the alliance members and local universities will work together to build smart city environments called "spotlight cities."

Another novelty stemming from the partnership between Ericsson and AT&T is Wi-Fi Landing Page, a new automotive Wi-Fi solution primarily intended for the most famous car makers. It gives drivers the ability to activate a free Wi-Fi hotspot, buy a data session and manage their Wi-Fi account from within their vehicle, which is a significant progress for the entire industry, especially given that a recent survey conducted among consumers shows that three out of four examinees believe that the vehicle networking service will be an important factor when deciding to buy the next automobile.

One of the solutions that will go commercial in Q2 2016 is Smart Metering as a Service, which enables end-to-end business process outsourcing drawing on Ericsson's experience of enabling more than 42 million smart meters worldwide. This solution ensures lower costs, simplifed and improved quality of service for providers, while consumers will benefit from the greater reliability of services.

After announcing a software to accelerate the implementation of IoT network in September, Ericsson unveiled Networks Software 17A for Massive IoT that will support millions of IoT device connections per cell site, which simultaneously ensures the reduction of module costs by 90%, the device battery lifetime of more than ten years, and seven times better cell coverage.

In today's connected world, data represent a valuable tool helping companies worldwide better understand the habits and real needs of consumers and, thus, improve their products. Proceeding from this fact, Ericsson presented the User & IoT Data Analytics solution for mobile operators, which will help them improve internal efficiency in the management of subscribers' data and IoT devices while exploring new possible applications of IoT network.
