Biggest projects in Belgrade focused on ecology - Nearly EUR 1 billion for landfill remediation in Vinca and construction of wastewater treatment plants
He reminds that about 80,000 trees have been planted in the capital city in the past few years, adding that the City of Belgrade has taken on Srbijasume's responsibility to maintain forests in its own territory, adopting a set of legal provisions regulating that segment.
Vesic stresses that the biggest projects in Belgrade are pertaining to ecology, reminding that the capital of Serbia accounts for 40% of Serbia's gross domestic product (GDP), Beoinfo reports.
– Our largest ongoing project is the remediation of landfill in Vinca, one of the biggest municipal solid waste (MSW) landfills in this part of Europe. The prequalification phase of a tender to appoint company for public-private partnership with the city is already completed. I am pleased to say that most bids for this EUR 250 million contract came from French companies. Strategic partner will be chosen next year - the city manager said at the conference "Green Economy in Serbia: Sources of Opportunities - Environmental Challenges: Should We Acclimatize?", which was held in the Embassy of France.
He added that the next year was expected to see a tender for another big public-private partnership for the construction of five wastewater treatment facilities with an estimated value of between 500 and 700 million euro.
– Unfortunately, at this moment, Belgrade is one of the very few European cities that discharge all their waste to rivers. Also, nearly a third of the city has no sewerage, which is why we are hastily working on a project to have five wastewater treatment facilities and missing sewerage built - Vesic said and voiced his belief that French companies would find interest in doing this job as well.
Vesic also announced that a public lighting project for Belgrade would also be ready by the year's end, adding that French companies had already expressed interest in public-private partnership for that project too.
