Serbia's railway firm Serbian Railways announced today that the reconstruction of the Sopot Kosmajski-Kovacevac stretch on the Rail Corridor X, between Belgrade and Nis, was financed with the proceeds of the Russian loan.
From this USD 800 million loan for the modernization of Serbian railways, about USD 11.8 million was spent on the reconstruction of the Sopot Kosmajski-Kovacevac stretch.
The contractor is Russia's railway company RZD International, subcontractors are ZGOP Novi Sad and Energoprojekt-niskogradnja Beograd, while some of the works were carried out by the agencies of Serbian Railways using their own materials.
Reconstruction of Sopot Kosmajski-Kovacevac railroad commenced 6 April 2015.
Before the reconstruction, trains traveled at 30 kilometers per hour on that section. Now their speed should range between 100 and 120 kilometers per hour.
