Selection procedure for a contractor on the construction of the new bridge at the Drina which should connect Ljubovija and Bratunac and thus Serbia, RS and BIH, have been nearing an end so it is realistic that the works start in the first half of October Miroslav Micic, president of the Ljubovija municipality and Vidoje Jovanovic, infrastructure affairs coordinator at Azbukovica.

New bridge at the Drina will be 227 m long. The government of Serbia will fund the construction while local authorities provided location, approvals and other permits. Governments of RS and BIH will pay for the access roads at the left coast of the Drina and facilities for vehicle and passenger control. Control will be on one side which is, as collocutors of Novosti outline, “both more rational and efficient”.

Preliminary bridge value is EUR 12 m. As planned, the works should end in two years. The old, iron bridge, made between two wars, has not been for freight traffic for a long time and passengers and cars cross it with a risk.
