"European Meat King" is coming - MoU signed for investment of Germany's Toennies in Serbia
Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said after signing the MoU in the Government of Serbia that the plan was to breed these pigs at 20 farms across Serbia.
- So far, agreement has been reached for five farms in Banat, we're now talking with the next five, and these ten farms will be enough to open a slaughterhouse as well - Vucic said and pointed out that the arrival of "German and European meat king" in Serbia represented a great stimulus for the progress of Serbia's economy and rural development.
Vucic also noted that in addition to unemployment rate reduction, a "dramatic increase in exports" of meat and meat products from Serbia was expected, stressing that Toennies alone would require more pork than Serbia was producing at the moment.
The MoU was signed by Serbian Economy Minister Zeljko Sertic and Daniel Nottbrock, a representative of Toennies.
- An agreement on investment will also be signed shortly - said Nottbrock.
In order to strengthen its presence in the markets of southeast Europe, Toennies is interested in investing about EUR 400 million in Serbia in the long term.
Germany's Toennies is one of the largest pig producers in Europe, breeding about 17 million pigs and around 400,000 cows a year, with its annual turnover exceeding 5 billion euros.
