The contract between Czech company “ČEZ" and Electric Power Company of Republic of Srpska on construction of steam power plant "Gacko 2" will be signed tomorrow (May 16, 2007) in Gacko. The signing will take place in the presence of the Prime Minister of RS, Milorad Dodik, with the members of the Government of RS, chiefs of the Electric Power Company of RS and Czech energy giant "ČEZ Group".

Prime Minister of RS, Milorad Dodik, and General Manager of "ČEZ Group", Martin Roman, signed the statement at the end of the last year about founding of joint venture NERS, in which "ČEZ" is the majority owner.

According to that statement, "ČEZ" should invest 1.5 billion EUR in construction of steam power plant of 700 MW, as well as in the opening of new and rehabilitation of existing mine and modernization of electricity production units. The investment will be realized within next four years, and it will enable employment of several thousands people, as well as few hundreds experts of various profiles.

The representatives of the Electric Power Company and the Government of Republic of Srpska and "ČEZ Group" came to the final agreement in April. That agreement, as Prime Minister Milorad Dodik pointed out, will bring so far the largest foreign investment to Republic of Srpska.

General Manager of "ČEZ Group", Martin Roman, pointed out that that investment would ensure energy efficiency of Republic of Srpska on long-term basis, which would not do any harm to environment protection, because the project was modern and ecological.

- We will have very modern and ecologically highly standardized power plant built in Gacko and I think that could be good introduction to the projects in Serbia – said Martin Roman.
