Orangutan wins the case
The court in Argentina judged without precedent which protects the right of imprisoned orangutans , CNN reported on Wednesday.
Sandra is the first orangutan who won at the court and thus obtained the right to be released from the cage in its natural environment where it will have partial freedom.
The court, addressed by the lawyers of the activists for animal rights protection, estimated that orangutan Sandra, who has been living for 20 years at the zoo in Buenos Aires, although not being humn, has guaranteed rights to life and freedom.
This judgment, where zoo management is entitled to the right to pledge a complaint in two weeks, is without precedent in the world.
Experts claim this kind of judgment can refer in the future solely to animals of Sandra’s kind because they have 96% genetic similarities with people.
Some activists for animal rights protection still think that judgment is a turning point for all imprisoned kinds.
