On behalf of the City of Smederevo Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić handed the keys of a new plant to the representatives of the Finnish PKC Group today.

The hall in which PKC will set up production has a surface of about 20,000 square metres. It was built and funded by the City of Smederevo, and in record time – less than four months.

Touring the hall, Vučić thanked those who worked on the building for meeting the deadline. He pointed out that the task was to build the plant by 7 December and that this was fulfilled.

“We have shown the world that we keep our promises”, said Vučić, and added that he can now confidently meet the Finnish prime minister, because his colleague will know that he is talking to a reliable partner who keeps his promises.

The ceremony of the symbolic hand-over of keys to the future leaseholder was attended by the President of the Board of Directors of the company PKC Wiring systems OY Juha Torniainen, the mayor of Smederevo Jasna Avramović and the Finnish ambassador to Serbia Pekka Orpana.

This project presents a unique model that has not been implemented in Serbia before, in which a city is an investor in plant construction.

The area where the plant was built was declared a free zone. Construction costs amounted to RSD 682 million, and the plant was built by a consortium of companies from Smederevo. Over 500 construction and other workers from Smederevo were engaged on the project.

The contract with PKC Group envisages that in the next three years the factory will employ at least 1,500 people and investments will amount to at least EUR 8 million.

The lease was signed for a period of at least 10 years.

The Finnish company will manufacture vehicle cables in Smederevo.
