Interstate Agreement on Construction of Belgrade-Timisoara Highway Signed
The parties to the agreement, as said, will establish a connection between the two states by directly connecting the Belgrade-Vatin (state border) highway, which will be 65 kilometers long, on the Serbian side and the Timisoara-Moravica (state border) highway, close to 78 kilometers long, on the Romanian side.
At the connection of the two highways, the parties to the agreement will build the border crossing in the territories of the two states.
When signing the agreement, minister Momirovic pointed out that, with the construction of the new modern highway from Belgrade to Timisoara, the two cities would be only an hour’s drive away from each other.
Minister Grindeanu said that the signing of the agreement was of great importance for both states and reminded that “in 2016, there was an initiative to sign this agreement, but the Romanian side didn’t consider this project a priority at the time”.
– We re-launched the initiative and, at the moment, feasibility studies are being prepared, which will be completed in the autumn. I believe that, next year, the decision will be made about who is to build the highway, and this is financing from Europe – he said.
