MOMIROVIC: Construction of First Subway Line to Begin in Spring 2022

Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Tomislav Momirovic has stated that the construction of the first subway line is to start in the spring of 2022

Explaining the Draft Law on the Subway and City Railway, Momirovic said that Serbia wanted to have a rational approach to the construction, that the technology should be state-of-the-art, but that, on the other hand, the subway system should neither be overly luxurious nor modelled after the ones in India.

– We want the subway system to be fast, rational and efficient and to serve the residents of Belgrade. Everyone is sharing pictures of traffic jams on social networks and they are likely to get even worse, because the economic standard has doubled in the past six-seven years – Momirovic said at the National Assembly of Serbia.

He pointed out that the basis for the construction of the subway was the fiscal consolidation carried out by Serbia.

According to him, the subway system will be modelled after the one in Paris, and the residents of Belgrade will be able to pick what they want the rail cars to look like.
