Just a day after a permit for preparatory work had been issued, a building permit was given as well for construction of new railway-road bridge across the Danube in Novi Sad in place of Zezeljev bridge that was 13 years ago destroyed by NATO bombing. This means that in parallel with the preparatory work can start construction of the new bridge. As newspaper 'Dnevnik' finds out, first pilings - for the foundation for future columns, can be expected to be placed on the Srem side of the bridge, as yet on Monday.

Source available to "Dnevnik" says that presently they are conducting the preparatory work which was given to Jagodina based company 'Mat', by the chosen Italian-Spanish consortium "Azvi-Tadei-Konsaldi". The remaining parts of the pillars of the destroyed bridge are being demolished and as soon as the job is finished, they will start drilling of piles. It is estimated that the first one to be released would be Srem side at Petrovaradin, where they will begin to work next week. The work of removal of piles was entrusted to the Belgrade company "Geosonda".

As "Dnevnik" finds out, selected contractor will hire other domestic companies to work as subcontractors on the construction of the bridge. "Mostogradnja" is about to sign the contract, and they will mount parts of the structure, which will be produced in the Italian factory and assembled here.
