The early public review on the occasion of the preparation of the Spatial Plan of the Special-Purpose Area of the Infrastructure Corridor of the Belgrade Center – Resnik – Mladenovac – Velika Plana Railway has been announced.

The basic concept is to form a modern two-track railway for passenger and cargo transport and a speed of up to 200 km/h along the entire length. The modernized railway should enable a commercial speed of 130 km/h for the fastest passenger trains.

From Resnik to Velika Plana, in order to enable speeds of 200 km/h and 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight trains, the new railway will for the most part deviate from the existing one. In Mladenovac, Smederevska Palanka and Velika Plana, stations will be rebuilt and modernized. The construction of pedestrian underpasses and canopies on platforms is planned for stops and stations.

All the structures within the body of the railway (bridges, culverts), will be new, designed for a two-track railway. The tunnels will be designed as two one-track tubes.

As said, the main reason is “to create the conditions for the realization of national interests in the field of traffic infrastructure on the principles of sustainable development.

The length of the existing railway is 86.17 km. It was built as a one-track railway and put into operation in 1884. It is an integral part of the Corridor 10 network, which connects western and central Europe with Greece, Turkey and the Middle East. It is electrified.

It is pointed out that the construction of new rail infrastructure will “directly contribute to the quality of accessibility, the level of competitiveness and a more dynamic development of Serbia and its regions”.

The plan was prepared by the Institute for Architecture and Urban Planning of Serbia.
