Government of North Macedonia Proposes Law Enabling Export of Marijuana
According to the announcement, the draft law enables the export of dried flowers produced through the cultivation of cannabis for medical purposes, by enabling companies which grow cannabis to export the already produced quantities of this dried herbal product as a narcotic to the markets of Europe and beyond.
The export of dried marijuana flowers from North Macedonia, it is pointed out, will be carried out in compliance with the international conventions and the EU laws which regulate this field.
One of the new features in the proposed legal solutions is the forming of the Agency for the Control of the Cultivation and Extraction of Cannabis and Products from Cannabis for Medical and Scientific Purposes.
The government of Zoran Zaev points out that the solutions in the draft law, in addition to being harmonized with the EU laws and the international acts, also contain country-specific solutions which aim to regulate the practical implementation of the law, whereby a better control of narcotics and psychotropic substances will be achieved.
They also say that another new feature is the obligation for companies with a license for the growing of cannabis for medical purposes to pay 10% of the net profit to the special account of the state budget.
The money, it is specified, will be meant for projects of public interest, such as support to the fund for rare diseases and the fund for the media, as well as program priorities in sports, culture and the civil sector.
North Macedonian law allows the production and sale of cannabis-based products for medical purposes since 2016.
