Austrian concern Swarovski is closing its production units in China and Czech Republic as it plans to focus on production in Austria and Serbia, the company announced today. By the company's decision, 200 workers will be laid off in Yingshang, China and another 75 in Czech Republic.

- After a comprehensive change in international production strategy, the focus in the next few months will be on the production at the headquarters in Wattens (Austria) and the new production plant in Serbia. Units in China and Czech Republic will be closed, and particularly big investments will be made in the production facility in Wattens - Swarovski said in its release.

Production facilities abroad have been under a magnifying glass over the past few months. As a result, Swarovski points out that competition conditions in China make it harder for the concern to keep production in line with its own high business, ethical and quality standards.

Therefore, the company decided to close its units in China. When it comes to Czech Republic, Swarovski says it will withdraw from this country during the year.
